About Client:Our client is an independent engineering and project management consultancy specialising in offshore and subsea energy infrastructure. They provide services to clients ranging from mid-size local businesses to multi-national corporations.
Our client's work covers a broad range of technical disciplines including mechanical, process, electrical, geotechnical, hydrodynamic and reliability engineering. They combine cloud-based computing with world-leading automated engineering and data handling techniques.
The Position: Our client is seeking a Subsea Materials Engineer with experience in structural design, materials, and corrosion.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a curiosity and passion for materials engineering and be eager to expand their expertise to encompass all knowledge areas, with training, mentorship and support from our experienced team. They should feel right at home in a modern, high pace, solution driven company.
This is a permanent, full time position based in the heart of Perth CBD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to projects in materials, corrosion, welding, and cathodic protection.
- Knowledgeable of corrosion threats and failure mechanisms of metallic materials (e.g. carbon steels, stainless steels and nickel alloys)
- Produce material and welding specifications for pipes, forgings, valves, bends and other related components, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Review and clarify technical proposals from project suppliers.
- Provide materials support to procurement and review subcontractor procedures and documentation.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., API, DNV, NORSOK, ASTM, AWS).
- Exhibit sound leadership skills across multiple projects and functions, both in the workplace and in other interests.
- Develop and maintain long-term business relationships through excellent technical knowledge and communication skills.
- Present complex ideas accessibly and engage in pragmatic problem-solving in materials engineering.
- Review and clarify technical proposals from project suppliers.
- Provide materials support to procurement and review subcontractor procedures and documentation.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., API 5L, DNV OS-F101, NORSOK, ASTM).
- Participate in evaluations and investigations, including authoring and review of technical reports and other documentation.
- Strong communication skills, articulate at all levels, internally and externally.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a professional approach.
- Demonstrate risk-focused and analytical decision-making skills.
Requirements: - 10-15+ years experience in materials engineer, welding engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- International Institute of Welding (IIW) International Welding Engineer (IWE) or equivalent qualifications.
- (Desirable) Additional certifications in welding, corrosion, cathodic protection, or related fields are desirable.
